Muslim World League and Russian Orthodox Church signed a cooperation agreement

26 July 2019

A summit with the participation of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and Secretary-General of the MWL Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa , as well as eminent theologians of both faiths, was held in Moscow.

The main topic of discussion was the development of cooperation.

Opening the meeting, the Patriarch noted that the World Muslim League has gained authority not only in the Islamic world, but also in the Christian community, and also said that the ROC actively cooperates with Muslim organizations around the world.

One of the most important areas of cooperation between Muslims and Christians, he said, is the fight against extremism and terrorism.

"Orthodox Christians and Muslims belong to the Eastern civilization. The Russian people are one people regardless of religion, sect or ethnicity. Russia can serve as an example of good relations and cooperation of Christians and Muslims for many countries", - the ROC press service quotes Patriarch Kirill.

Extremism and terrorism, as he stressed, do not have a nationality, "and it would be wrong to associate it only with the Muslim community".

"Terrorists are people who can declare their belonging to a particular religion, but in fact, they are people beyond any religion, because the acts committed by terrorists contradict the Divine law", - said the head of the ROC.

Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa , in his turn, said that the  WML highly appreciates the actions of the Russian Orthodox Church aimed at providing humanitarian assistance in the Middle East, and also noted the common position of the participants in strengthening interethnic, interethnic and interreligious harmony throughout the world.

At the end of the meeting, the parties signed the agreement between the Muslim World League and the Department for External Church Relations.
