Russia is actively negotiating measures to ensure the safety of its citizens, embassy staff, and other representatives in Syria, with this being the primary focus at present, stated Sergey Naryshkin, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation, during a briefing with journalists.
"We are, of course, conducting negotiations primarily concerning the safety of our citizens, embassy staff, and other representatives of our country. The main task right now is to ensure the security of our people," Naryshkin emphasized in response to a question about contacts with Syrian parties.
This follows earlier reports that former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family have arrived in Moscow, where they were granted asylum by Russia for humanitarian reasons.
