Kazakhstan and Russia have built exemplary relations, Kazakhstan's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, said on Tuesday during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
"The relations between Kazakhstan and Russia are exemplary. We have built exemplary relations with you. And I hope that it will continue under the new president [of Kazakhstan], because we are neighbors, God-given to each other. And we must not deviate from this, it is in mutual interest," Nazarbayev said, referring to Putin.
He also spoke in favor of expanding observers and members of the Eurasian Economic Union.
"Our task is to develop the Eurasian Economic Union further, to accept associate members, observers, there are already them. And more and more will understand that it is beneficial. This union, which works in consensus, does not infringe on anyone, does not hurt anyone," explained Nazarbayev, who is the honorary chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
