Kazakhstan's first president Nursultan Nazarbayev, during talks in Moscow with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, thanked him for supporting the republic during the coronavirus pandemic and helping with vaccines.

"I sincerely wanted to thank you in person for the Russian side's support for all of Kazakhstan during the pandemic - with vaccines, drugs and so on. Remember, we went to an exhibition in St. Petersburg and then we looked, we agreed on a joint venture. Now this company in Karaganda produces a Russian vaccine, of the same quality and in large quantities," said Nazarbayev, referring to Putin.

Nazarbayev also noted that when he contracted the coronavirus, a group of Russian doctors helped him. "I will never forget many things - when I got sick, a group of Russian doctors was near me for 10 days. That was crucial in my cure. It is not forgotten," he explained.

On June 25, Nazarbayev was vaccinated against coronavirus with the Sputnik V vaccine produced by the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex. On June 18 last year, the press service of Kazakhstan's first president reported that he tested positive for the coronavirus, so Nazarbayev switched to self-isolation and continued to work remotely. His recovery was announced on July 2.

On February 1, Kazakhstan began vaccinating the population against the coronavirus with Sputnik V, produced in Russia. In late February the shipment of Russian vaccine produced at Karaganda pharmaceutical complex began to regions of the country. Since April 26 in the republic began vaccination with a local drug against coronavirus QazVac. In late April, the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna purchased 1 million doses of vaccine Hayat-Vax of Chinese company Sinopharm. In addition, in early June the republic received the first batch of CoronaVac vaccine produced by Chinese company Sinovac Biotech in the amount of 500 thousand doses.

Example of interstate relations

Nazarbayev called the history of interaction between the two countries an example of interstate relations during the talks.

"The history of relations between Russia and Kazakhstan is so stable, is probably an example of interstate relations. I hold to this line," he said.

Nazarbayev also noted that as honorary chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, he continues to work in this direction.
