25 June 2021

Former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev was vaccinated with Sputnik V, his press service said on Friday.

"Kazakhstan's first president received the first component of the Sputnik V vaccine produced at the Karaganda Pharmaceutical Plant," Nazarbayev's official website said in a statement.

After the vaccination, Nazarbayev appealed to Kazakhstanis to observe sanitary and epidemiological safety measures and to actively vaccinate.

"Currently, about 3 million people in Kazakhstan have been vaccinated. Today I also received a vaccine against coronavirus. I urge all Kazakhstanis to actively continue to be vaccinated and not to be afraid of it. It is especially important to get a vaccine now because of the appearance of new strains of the virus. It is necessary to do so for the sake of your own health. We are living in a difficult time. We have to live through it all together. I sincerely wish everyone health and well-being," Nazarbayev's press service said.

Four vaccines are available for vaccination in the country: the Russian Sputnik V vaccine produced by the Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex, the Kazakhstani QazVac, the UAE vaccine Hayat-Vax, produced by the Chinese company Sinopharm and CoronaVac produced by the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech Ltd.
