Russia supports a draft resolution proposed by ten non-permanent members of the United Nations, which calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and urges the measure to be put to a vote, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said.
“The Security Council must urgently break out of the paralysis imposed by the United States over recent months under constant claims of an impending deal between Israel and Hamas,” Nebenzya stated at a UN Security Council meeting on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “The time to act is now. That’s why Russia fully supports the draft resolution proposed by the ten non-permanent members, which calls for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire and the release of all hostages. We urge this resolution to be put to a vote without further delay.”
The head of Russia’s UN delegation highlighted that Resolution 2735 has only served as a tool to buy time for Israel. “Let’s be clear: our American colleagues have deliberately misled us, giving Israel time to carry out its plans to kill as many Palestinians as possible in Gaza and to turn the territory into an uninhabitable zone,” Nebenzya pointed out.
