Nebenzya: Russia is disappointed with attempts to sideline the Middle East settlement

Russia is disappointed that the Palestinian-Israeli settlement and other Middle East problems are pushed aside by the Western countries. Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said this on Wednesday, speaking at a meeting of the Security Council of the world organization.

"We would like to re-emphasize the importance of convening a ministerial-level meeting of the Quartet of international mediators and establishing close cooperation of this mechanism with the Palestinians, the Israelis and key regional players. To date, its activities, despite the support of many states, have been frozen due to the reluctance of the United States, seeking to fully "privatize" this Middle East dossier, to continue multilateral engagement," he said.

"We call on the UN secretary-general [Antonio Guterres], as one of the members of the Quartet, to actively promote multilateral efforts within this association," Nebenzya continued. - "We are deeply disappointed that the problems of the Middle East settlement, like many other problems of the Middle East, are gradually becoming secondary, if not tertiary, issues for the Western countries."
