Russia is aware that the UN is currently developing a plan for the early recovery of Syria, and it wants to know the specifics, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, said during a Security Council meeting on Syria.
“We have learned that UN structures are in the process of drafting an early recovery plan for Syria. We want to know in advance what exactly this plan entails. I believe Damascus would like to know as well,” Nebenzya emphasized.
The diplomat also stressed that Russia insists on one key condition: the plan must not include any politically motivated prerequisites for launching development projects in Syria. “Regardless of whether the UN leadership will have the courage to fulfill its duty to Syria honestly and avoid politicizing humanitarian efforts aimed at supporting its population, we are convinced that humanitarian organizations are now obliged to show solidarity. They must help the Syrian authorities by assisting in the reception of refugees and ensuring they have access to food, medical care, and housing,” Nebenzya added.
