Nebenzya: Russia Supports Syria's Demand for Withdrawal of Illegal Military Forces

26 June

Russia stands in solidarity with Syria's demand for the withdrawal of all illegally stationed military contingents on its territory. Stabilization of the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) is possible with the cessation of foreign military presence that violates the country's sovereignty, stated Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

"The atmosphere in the region remains extremely turbulent amid ongoing military actions in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and the high risk of neighboring countries becoming involved. At the same time, concerns regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria are only increasing. Primarily, these are related to Israel's destructive actions, which continue to carry out arbitrary strikes on Syrian infrastructure, as well as periodic clashes between armed groups and US armed forces," - he said at a UN Security Council meeting on the humanitarian and political situation in Syria. - "A high level of tension persists in areas not under Damascus' control, with terrorism hotspots present in Idlib, in the Euphrates region, and in Turkish operation zones. In this regard, we align ourselves with the legitimate demand of the Syrian authorities for the withdrawal of all illegally stationed military contingents in the country."

Nebenzya emphasized that Russia believes "achieving sustainable stabilization in the SAR is possible exclusively through the termination of foreign military presence that violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of SAR, as well as the unconditional cessation of regular airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force."
