The outlines of an agreement on restoring the Iranian nuclear deal in its entirety are already visible at the talks in the Austrian capital, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Wednesday at a meeting of the world organization's Security Council.
"The diplomatic process to restore the full-fledged Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA] on the Iranian nuclear program is going at full speed in Vienna. The outlines of a future agreement are already visible. There is a common understanding of how to move towards the final goal," he said.
Nebenzya noted that in general, Washington's policy towards Tehran has not changed since the arrival of new President Joe Biden in the White House. "Unfortunately, we haven't seen any real revision of the decisions made by the previous US administration so far. In practice, the US side continues its policy of maximum pressure on Iran and continues to violate Security Council Resolution 2231 [on the Iran nuclear deal], including maintaining unilateral restrictions and an arms embargo on Iran, although all UN restrictions in this regard have expired," the diplomat stressed.
In Vienna, Tehran and the international "five" (Russia, Britain, Germany, China and France) have been holding face-to-face talks since April to restore the Iranian nuclear agreement in its original form: lifting US sanctions on the Islamic republic, Iran's fulfillment of its nuclear obligations, and Washington's return to the deal. Representatives of the JCPOA member states also hold separate consultations with the US delegation without Iranian participation. There have been no direct talks between US and Iranian emissaries in Vienna yet.
