Authorities in Uzbekistan received two more batches of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, according to the Republic's Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health (SES).
"Two more shipments of the Sputnik V vaccine were delivered to Uzbekistan today," the service said in Telegram. Deliveries of the Russian drug to the republic began in April.
SES noted that this time the first and second components of the drug were delivered at once.
Earlier, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin in Kazan asked Moscow to increase supplies of Sputnik V and consider the possibility of its production in the republic. Later, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko told RIA Novosti that the sides have agreed to localize the production of the vaccine and the Uzbek side has already selected a site for the production of the drug.
Since April 1, Uzbekistan, where more than 34.5 million people live, also launched a campaign to vaccinate the population against the coronavirus. Currently, Uzbeks, in addition to Sputnik V, are vaccinated with a recombinant preparation from China's Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutica, and a new batch of AstraZeneca vaccine is expected in August, during which time at least the first vaccine components have vaccinated more than 3 million people.
