New government of Iraq to be formed by early next week

Iraq's new government, to be headed by Mohammed al-Sudani, will be formed before the beginning of next week. Aref al-Hamami, a spokesman for the Coordination Framework parliamentary alliance, said on Monday.

"The composition of al-Sudani's government will be presented to the Iraqi parliament, most likely at the end of this week or early next week," said al-Hamami, who was quoted by As-Sumaria TV channel.

In agreement with most of the parliamentary factions, he added, the new prime minister intends to form a new cabinet of professionals "who do not have their name tainted by corruption cases and have experience in their particular area of work."

Last Thursday, the Iraqi Council of Representatives (parliament) elected Abdel Latif Rashid as the country's new president. It also appointed al-Sudani as prime minister, tasked with forming the future government. His candidacy for prime minister was submitted by the Shiite alliance Coordination Framework. According to al-Sudani, he intends to create "a strong government capable of maintaining security and stability, building the country and balancing relations in the international arena."

According to the country's constitution, the new prime minister must present the composition of the new cabinet within a month. Al-Sudani has already begun consultations with factions in the Council of Representatives and, according to their representatives, his actions "enjoy great political support from parliamentary blocs and parties."
