New oil field reserves in Turkey estimated at 1 billion barrels

The potential of a new oil field discovered in southeastern Turkey is estimated at 1 billion barrels. The head of the national pipeline company, Melih khan Bilgin, said this on Wednesday evening on CNN Turk.


"We estimate the potential of the field in the Gabar region at 1 billion barrels and the value of the reserves in the range of $70 billion," he said, adding that oil is planned to be exported in the future.


Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the discovery of an oil field in the Gabar mountain range area of Sirnak province last Tuesday. According to him, oil was found at a depth of 2.6 kilometers, the production capacity of the field is 100 thousand barrels per day. According to Erdogan, the oil is of very high quality and is already being pumped from the field to the refinery.
