02 October 2023

Niger has formally accepted Algeria's initiative to restore constitutional order in the country. The Algerian Foreign Ministry announced this in a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

"The Algerian government, conveyed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Niger, has received an official notification confirming Niamey's endorsement of Algeria's mediation efforts aimed at achieving a political resolution to the crisis in this fraternal nation. This aligns with the initiative spearheaded by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune," the statement read.

The ministry expressed optimism that accepting the Algerian initiative will enhance the prospects for a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Niger.

The statement also mentioned that Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf is scheduled to visit Niamey in the near future to engage in "preliminary discussions" with all relevant stakeholders.
