Nigeria and Algeria build gas pipeline to export gas to Europe

07 September 2022

Nigeria will soon build a gas pipeline that will connect it with Algeria to export gas to Europe. This was announced by Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, on the sidelines of the Gastech 2022 oil and gas conference in Milan.

"We are building a pipeline through Algeria to sell gas directly to Europe," Sylva was quoted as saying by the ANSA news agency on Wednesday. The state minister did not give an exact completion date, but noted that "Algeria has completed its grid," while Nigeria "has completed its at 614 kilometers" and now they need to be connected.

"Hydrogen is an opportunity for Nigeria, but the biggest opportunity for us is to supply gas directly to Europe. Our reserves are 206 trillion cubic feet, but today we produce 8 billion. With new exploration, we expect to triple our reserves from 206 trillion to 600 trillion cubic feet," he said.
