26 September 2023

Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev has embarked on a working visit to Egypt. During this visit, he will engage in Russian-Egyptian security consultations. This information has been reported by the press service of the Russian Security Council office.

"On September 26-27, discussions are scheduled to take place in Cairo with Egyptian President's National Security Advisor Faiza Abou el-Naga and Egyptian President's Counterterrorism Advisor  Magdy Abdel Ghaffar, along with leaders of various government agencies," announced the Security Council's press service in a statement.

Patrushev's previous visit to Egypt took place in January 2019.

The secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation is currently on a foreign trip. Just a day earlier, he visited Oman, where he engaged in discussions regarding cooperation with counterparts from that country within the framework of the Security Council.

Russia and Egypt have an ongoing dialogue concerning security matters. For instance, in May of this year, the secretary of the Russian Security Council held a meeting with specialized advisors to the Egyptian president in Moscow, where they deliberated on collaboration between the two nations in counterterrorism efforts. In January, Patrushev hosted Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in the Russian capital, during which they addressed regional and international security concerns.
