Novak Highlights Global Interest in Russian Oil

27 December 2023

Numerous countries, including those in Latin America and Africa, express interest in purchasing Russian oil and oil products, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with Rossiya-24.

"Many countries express a keen interest in purchasing Russian oil and oil products. These include Latin American countries, African nations, and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Globally, if we consider the main partners, they are attracted to new logistics routes, supplies, and transportation routes, including the Northern Sea Route," Novak stated.

Underlining the Northern Sea Route's strategic advantages, Novak revealed that Russia transported 1.5 million tons of oil via this route in 2023, marking a significant milestone. He emphasized the route's cost-effectiveness, being approximately two times shorter than traditional routes through the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Assessing Russia's key partners, Novak highlighted the dominant positions of China, with a share ranging from 45% to 50%, and the notable growth in supplies to India. He pointed out that Russia's total share of supplies to India surged to about 40% within a two-year period, indicating a strengthening partnership.
