NYT source claims that Israel sabotaged a facility in Iran

The fire at the Natanz facility for the production of centrifuges last week was caused by Israeli sabotage using an explosive device. This statement of the source of the New York Times is given in a material published on Sunday.

"A Middle Eastern intelligence official with knowledge of the episode said Israel was responsible for the attack on the Natanz nuclear complex on Thursday, using a powerful bomb," the article reads. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity when discussing sensitive intelligence and operational topics.

According to the newspaper, a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps confirmed that an explosive device was used on July 2.

The publication states that it does not have the ability to verify the claims of Israel's involvement in the incident. It does not explain how the explosive device entered the site. The article notes that Israeli officials on Sunday did not give a clear answer to the question of whether this country organized a diversion in Iran.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, earlier said that the building damaged in the fire at the Natanz facility was intended for the production of centrifuges. Kamalvandi, quoted by the IRNA news agency, said there were no casualties, but significant material damage was caused.
