The International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2023" is an excellent platform for developing partnership between Russia and the Islamic world in order to achieve sustainable development. The statement was made by Deputy Secretary-General for Economic Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, speaking at the plenary session "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2023: Economic partnership in the modern world."
The speaker stressed that in today's difficult conditions international cooperation becomes especially important. The possibilities for economic interaction, investments between Russia and the OIC countries as well as between Tatarstan and the OIC countries are being actively discussed at the forum. The OIC deputy secretary-general reminded that the trade turnover between Russia and the OIC countries has increased considerably in recent years. In 2021, it was $113 billion, which is 40% more than, for example, in 2017.
Russia and the countries of the Islamic world have a long history of relations, which also contributes to strengthening ties between the parties in various spheres. Another issue is the development of the halal industry. The global halal market is currently estimated at $2.6 trillion annually. The work of the forum, as stressed the OIC deputy secretary-general, will contribute to the further growth of this figure, especially as experts estimate that by 2028, the global halal market will be "worth" more than 11 trillion dollars.
