Russia can play an important role in seeking a just settlement of the conflict between Israel and Palestine on a two-state basis, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha said on Monday at a joint press conference following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"We discussed the Palestinian issue and asked that Russia, as a great country, could also participate [in the settlement process] to help the Palestinian people," he said.

The OIC secretary-general voiced support for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on a two-state basis. "There is constant talk about a two-state solution, but nothing really happens," he stressed. - "Russia could make an effort to make this two-state solution [coexistence] finally become a reality. In this way, we would help the Palestinian people, who have the right to their own state."

The OIC secretary-general also noted that the Russian Federation has observer status in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and is an important partner for the organization. "We are interested in making the most of the relationship between Russia and the OIC," he stressed.
