Authorities in Oman have approved the emergency use of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine and the Chinese Sinovac, the local newspaper Times of Oman reported, citing Seif Salim al-Abri, Director-General of Disease Surveillance and Control Department in the Ministry of Health.
"Emergency licenses have also been issued in the Sultanate for four vaccines, namely Pfizer/Biontech, Oxford/AstraZeneca, Sputnik V and Sinovac," al-Abri said at a press conference.
Oman became the 68th country to approve the Russian vaccine.
Previously, Sputnik V was approved in 67 countries with a total population of over 3.4 billion people. Sputnik V ranks second in the world in the number of approvals received by state regulators. The effectiveness of the vaccine was 97.6% based on an analysis of data from 3.8 million vaccinated Russians, higher than the data previously published by The Lancet medical journal (91.6%), the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Gamaleya Research Center previously reported.
