Oman's Foreign Minister Calls for Investigation into Israel's Actions in Gaza

31 October 2023

Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud AlBusaidi has urged the international community to conduct an impartial investigation into Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip and to ensure accountability for attacks on civilians.

"My firm belief is that violence is not the solution, and we strongly condemn it because the victims are mostly children and civilians. History has shown us that it is impossible to resolve the Palestinian problem and the Arab-Israeli conflict through military means," he stated in an interview with the Oman News Agency.

The minister emphasized that Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip cannot be justified as necessary self-defense. He pointed out that Israel's blockade of the Palestinian enclave, which restricts access to water, electricity, food, and fuel, may amount to war crimes. AlBusaidi called for urgent international intervention in the conflict to prevent Israel from violating international law. He also stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire and truce, to be overseen by independent UN observers.

"The international community has turned a blind eye to the underlying causes of the conflict for decades. It is high time for a genuine awakening within the UN Security Council, where all resolutions are respected, and international law is applied to all nations without bias or double standards," emphasized the Omani foreign minister.
