Russia's investigative committee is asking the Basmanny court in Moscow to send Kazbek Khuranov, accused of creating a cell of the Tablighi Jamaat extremist organization banned in Russia, to a pre-trial detention center. The court's press service clarified to TASS that he was officially charged under several articles of the Russian Criminal Code related to terrorism.
"The Basmanny district court of Moscow has received a petition from the investigation for a measure of restraint in the form of detention against Khuranov Kazbek Khasanovich, accused of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code (creation of a terrorist community)," press secretary of the Basmanny court Kristina Bulygina said.
In addition, the detainee is charged with aiding terrorist activities (205.1 of the Criminal Code) and propaganda of terrorism (205.2 of the Criminal Code).
TASS has no official comments from the investigation agencies.
About the detentions
As was reported last December, the Federal security service of Russia together with MIA with power support of Rosgvardiya detained seven members of the Tablighi Jamaat organization recognized extremist in Russia. The Federal security service's Moscow and Moscow region directorate told TASS that foreign emissaries were leading the extremist structure. Russian citizens were also involved in its activities and members of the Tablighi Jamaat cell used increased measures of conspiracy and counteraction to law enforcement agencies. It was established that the detainees were conducting ideological brainwashing of new supporters, studying banned literature and discussing plans for the creation of an Islamic state on Russian territory, a caliphate.
According to the special service, the recruits were sent to training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In the course of searches, they confiscated extremist literature, means of communication, and also electronic data carriers with reports on the work.
The cell was a clandestine structure of the international religious association Tablighi Jamaat, which in accordance with the decision of the Supreme court of the Russian Federation dated May 7, 2009, was declared extremist and its activity was prohibited on the territory of Russia. The association is not officially registered anywhere. The headquarters of the organization is located in Pakistan, where it moved from India, where it was founded in 1927. Tablighi Jamaat activists receive training in Pakistan, India and Indonesia.
