An outbound flight for students of Russian universities left Turkmenabad for Moscow on Tuesday. It was organized by the Russian embassy in connection with the suspension of regular transport links between Turkmenistan and Russia because of the pandemic.
"On December 14, 2021, flight 8536 of the Russian airline S7 flew from Turkmenabad to Moscow. This additional flight was organized by the Russian embassy for students of Russian universities from Turkmenistan," the Russian diplomatic mission in Ashgabat reported on its Twitter page. As the embassy specified, the plane carried 194 passengers.
Turkmenistan remains the only state in the former Soviet Union where no cases of infection with the coronavirus have been officially recorded. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the authorities of the republic have imposed severe restrictions on entry and international flights, as well as a masked regime. At the same time, no bans, including mass events, have been imposed. Turkmenistan's Ministry of Health in early July announced the beginning of compulsory vaccination against coronavirus for all residents over 18 years of age.
The Russian embassy in late September reported that according to the decision of the country's authorities, foreigners are now required to present a PCR test and a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus to enter the country. The Russian diplomatic mission also advised that citizens of Turkmenistan must still carry a certificate of absence of coronavirus when entering Russia. The requirement for the mandatory use of the mobile application "Travel without COVID-19" when entering Russia will not apply to citizens of Turkmenistan until mid-January.
