The Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, operating under the Taliban-led Afghan government, announced on the social platform X (formerly Twitter) that a total of 2,627 Afghan nationals who had been in Iran have been repatriated.
The return took place through the Islam Qala checkpoint located in the Herat province of western Afghanistan. Among the returnees, 1,282 individuals sought assistance from the Afghan branch of the International Organization for Migration.
The details regarding whether these migrants returned voluntarily or were deported were not specified by the ministry.
In recent months, Iran has intensified efforts to repatriate illegal migrants from its territory. According to the Hasht-e Subh newspaper, more than 44,000 Afghan nationals were returned to Afghanistan between June 21 and July 26, with a majority of them being deported.
