The authorities of Pakistan expressed their condolences to the Russian government and the relatives of the victims of the terrorist attack near the Russian embassy in Kabul. The Islamic republic's foreign ministry said this on Monday evening.
"Pakistan strongly condemns the despicable suicide attack today (Monday - TASS) near the Russian Federation embassy in Kabul, which led to the loss of precious lives of Russian diplomats and citizens of Afghanistan," the statement said. It also noted that "the government and people of Pakistan express their deepest condolences to the Russian government" and the families of those killed in the attack.
"Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reiterates its determination to eliminate this threat," the statement stressed.
The Russian MFA said Monday that an unidentified person detonated an explosive device in the morning near the entrance to the consular section of the Russian embassy in Kabul, killing two members of the diplomatic mission. The ministry noted that the embassy is in close contact with the special services of Afghanistan.
According to Al Jazeera, at least eight people were killed in the blast, and at least 15 more were wounded. According to Al-Arabiya, the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber, who approached the gates of the Russian diplomatic mission and was shot dead by the Taliban. The Afghan newspaper Hasht-e Subh specified that at the time of the explosion there were Afghans (mostly students) outside the Russian embassy who had applied to its consular department for Russian visas.
