Pakistan Proposes Hosting Speakers' Summit in Russia

02 December

Pakistan has suggested that Russia host the next conference of parliamentary speakers from six nations to address terrorism and enhance regional cooperation, Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, told TASS.

Sadiq highlighted that the inaugural conference of parliamentary leaders, involving Afghanistan, Iran, China, Russia, Pakistan, and Turkey, took place in Pakistan in December 2017. “We signed agreements on various issues during that conference. Our primary aim was to devise strategies to combat terrorism, ensure security, and tackle numerous other challenges. I initiated the idea back in 2015, and we finally gathered everyone at the table in 2017,” he noted.

Subsequent meetings were held in Iran (2018) and Turkey (2019). Sadiq emphasized his intention to encourage Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Volodin to host the fourth iteration of the conference in Russia. “It’s now Russia’s turn to invite everyone. I believe we are finalizing some agreements with the Russian Duma to make this happen,” he added.
