Pakistan's Foreign Ministry on Monday demanded that Afghan authorities stop shelling Pakistani border guards and ensure security on the border between the two countries.
"Incidents along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in which Pakistani security forces are attacked from Afghanistan have increased significantly in the past few days," the Pakistani foreign ministry said in a statement posted on social media.
Islamabad and Kabul have been working together for the past several months to ensure effective coordination and security along the border. "Unfortunately, militants of banned terrorist groups, including the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (the Pakistani wing of the Taliban banned in Russia - TASS) continue to attack Pakistani border posts, resulting in the death of several Pakistani soldiers," the foreign ministry said.
Islamabad asks Kabul to ensure security on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and to take tough measures against those involved in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
On Friday, the Pakistani Air Force carried out airstrikes in the Afghan province of Khost, killing up to 44 people. Amir Khan Mottaki, appointed acting Afghan foreign minister in the interim Taliban government, protested this to Pakistani Ambassador Mansoor Ahmad Khan.
