Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has called upon the international community and the UN Security Council to secure a ceasefire and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip during a meeting in the SCO+ format in Astana.
"In line with the spirit of today's meeting, we must hold the international community, especially the UN Security Council, accountable for ensuring an immediate ceasefire, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and protection of civilians throughout the Gaza Strip," Sharif stated. He added, "The Council must also ensure the implementation of its resolutions for the peaceful resolution of all protracted conflicts."
Addressing contemporary challenges, Sharif emphasized that climate change is the "defining reality" of our era. "Natural disasters triggered by climate change pose a real threat. They negatively impact the lives of millions of people. We witnessed these catastrophes firsthand during the devastating floods in Pakistan in 2022," the prime minister noted.
Sharif also advocated for technological and financial assistance to countries most vulnerable to climate change. "This support will enable them to recover from natural disasters and adapt to the increasingly frequent and severe impacts of climate change," he added.
