Palestine Reports No Fuel Entering Gaza Strip Since Escalation Began

23 October 2023

The press service of the Palestinian government reported that no fuel shipments have entered the Gaza Strip since October 7. This information was shared in a statement released on the official Facebook page of the Palestinian government (Facebook, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia).

"We can confirm that no fuel has entered the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the [Israeli] aggression," stated the government press service. It further clarified that "the trucks that have arrived over the past two days" via the Rafah crossing "carried solely humanitarian aid."

On Sunday, two convoys crossed into the Palestinian enclave through Rafah, comprising 17 trucks in the morning and an additional 14 in the evening. The news agency AFP reported that six of the vehicles in the convoys were gasoline tankers.

The initial shipment of 20 trucks carrying humanitarian aid reached the Gaza Strip on Saturday, with reports indicating that Egyptian authorities are planning to dispatch another convoy of 40 vehicles filled with supplies for the local population on Monday.

Last week, Egypt made an appeal to the global community, as well as regional and international organizations willing to provide humanitarian assistance to the people in the Gaza Strip, to deliver aid to Egypt's El-Arish International Airport in the Sinai Peninsula. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry highlighted that the ongoing Israeli bombardment was disrupting the normal operation of the checkpoint. Cairo called on Israel to cease the shelling and expressed its hope that the border crossing would be able to function as "the lifeline in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip."
