Palestine Seeks Russia's Support Ahead of Abbas' Visit to Gaza

26 August

Palestine has reached out to Russia for support in preparing for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' visit to the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia, Abdel Hafiz Nofal, said during a press conference.

President Abbas revealed his plan to visit Gaza on August 15 during an extraordinary session of the Turkish parliament. “The President's decision to go to the Gaza Strip is a serious effort to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza,” the ambassador explained. “We have sought support from all brotherly and friendly nations on this matter, including Russia.”

The diplomat further noted that Palestine has also requested assistance from the Security Council and the UN General Assembly. A special commission has been established in Palestine to examine the visit. Nofal expressed that at a time when the global community is struggling to resolve the situation in Gaza, “the President's visit could play a crucial role in stopping the bloodshed.”

“Unfortunately, Israel remains determined to maintain its stance on international platforms. Therefore, we believe that President Mahmoud Abbas' visit to the Gaza Strip has the potential to make a significant impact on the situation,” Nofal added.
