Palestinian Ambassador to Russia: Gaza's Reconstruction Could Cost Up to $90 Billion

07 October

The reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is estimated to cost between $80 and $90 billion, according to UN calculations, and it will take seven to eight years to rebuild its infrastructure, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal told in an interview with Izvestia.

“The Palestinian Authority must return to Gaza as the sole legitimate representative of the people. It is the only force capable of governing Gaza during both the current and post-war stages. Only it can lead the efforts in preparing for an international conference on the reconstruction of Gaza, which, according to the most modest UN estimates, will cost between $80 and $90 billion. The infrastructure restoration will take seven to eight years,” the diplomat emphasized.

Nofal also stressed the urgent need for an international donor conference dedicated to Gaza's reconstruction. “This conference cannot take place without a resolution and a clear plan, which can only be achieved with the involvement of the Palestinian Authority,” he added.
