Palestinian ambassador to Russia: Western countries put pressure on the situation around Russia and Ukraine

The countries of Europe and the Group of Seven put hard pressure on the leadership of Palestine, urging it to condemn Russia's position on the situation in Ukraine, but President Mahmoud Abbas rejected these appeals. Palestinian Ambassador to Moscow Abdel Hafiz Nofal said this in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.

"I must say that the Palestinian leadership has come under harsh pressure from European countries, as well as from a number of G7 states, who have urged us to condemn Russia's position. But President Mahmoud Abbas categorically rejected these calls," he said.

"We believe that the Russian leadership will be able to find a quick and adequate solution to the current conflict," the ambassador stressed.

According to Nofal, Palestine hopes that a political settlement will be reached as soon as possible and in the most fair way.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to an appeal for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country.
