Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in the town of Jenin and its adjoining refugee camp in the West Bank on Wednesday, as reported by the WAFA news agency.
The purpose of Abbas' visit is to observe the progress of rebuilding the town, which was damaged during a special operation conducted by the Israel Defense Forces. Upon his arrival, the Palestinian president was warmly received by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and local administration officials.
During his visit to Jenin, Abbas paid tribute to the victims of the recent Israeli operation by laying a wreath at the mass grave. He referred to the city as a "powerful symbol of the Palestinian people's struggle and resilience."
The Israeli forces invaded Jenin and the adjacent Palestinian refugee camp on the night of July 3, but they withdrew from the Jenin camp on the morning of July 5. According to the latest data from the Palestinian health ministry, the Israeli aggression resulted in the deaths of 13 Palestinians, with at least 120 others being injured. Medical professionals have classified the condition of at least 20 victims as serious. In response to these events, the Palestinian leadership has made the decision to cease all contacts with Israeli authorities and further reduce areas of coordination on security issues.
