Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has formally submitted his government's resignation to Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud Abbas. Shtayyeh himself confirmed this development, stating, "I submitted the government's resignation petition to President Abbas last Tuesday," as reported by Al-Qahira al-Ikhbariya TV channel. He expressed concern over attempts to manipulate the PNA's function, asserting that such efforts are unacceptable.
Despite challenges, Shtayyeh highlighted the achievements of his administration in maintaining a balance between citizen demands and Palestinian rights amidst the recent escalation in Gaza. Addressing the media, he emphasized the government's dedication to serving the Palestinian people.
Earlier reports from Al Mayadeen TV quoted an official source within Abbas's administration, indicating that the current Ramallah government would resign on Monday while continuing its duties until a successor is appointed. The decision reportedly stems from pressures exerted by regional actors and the United States. The next phase involves fostering national consensus among all Palestinian factions, including Hamas, before forming a new government.
In a related development, Ayman Raqab, a member of Fatah movement's leading faction within the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), revealed plans to convene in Moscow later in February to negotiate the formation of a unified Palestinian government comprised of technocrats, as conveyed to a TASS correspondent on February 21.
