Demonstrators showing their support for Palestine staged a blockade, preventing access to the US military base situated in the city of Alice Springs, located in the center of the continent. This development was reported by the local publication NT-News.
As per the report, several dozen protesters blockaded the sole road leading to the Pine Gap military base, which is jointly utilized by the Australian and US Armed Forces. The demonstration was organized by a group of Palestinian supporters who aimed to express their solidarity and support for the Palestinian people. They called on the military base personnel to "take a moment to reflect on the tragic deaths and losses in the Gaza Strip."
According to the rally organizers, Pine Gap employs personnel who are "tasked with supervising and coordinating US military operations worldwide, including in the Middle East." They stressed that it's essential for these personnel to recognize that not all Australians share a pro-Israel, pro-US government stance. The organization Territorians for Palestine declared, "We stand against the oppressive Israeli apartheid policies and call for an end to the occupation of Palestinian territory and the suffering of the Palestinian people. The Australian government should cease its support for Israel and the US and actively advocate for the freedom of the Palestinian people and their rightful land."
The protest unfolded over the course of several hours, with the presence and oversight of law enforcement and emergency services. Following its conclusion, the demonstrators voluntarily left the roadway.
