Participants of Iran nuclear deal finalized seventh round of talks in Vienna

17 December 2021

Participants of the meeting of the Joint Commission of Iran and the international "five" (Russia, Britain, Germany, China and France) on the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program have completed the seventh round of negotiations in the Austrian capital, Mikhail Ulyanov, head of the Russian delegation and Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, said on Friday.

"The meeting of the Joint Commission on the JCPOA, as well as the seventh round of the Vienna talks are over. Negotiations will resume soon," he wrote on Twitter.

As diplomatic sources previously noted, European participants in the consultations intend to take a break due to Christmas, so work is scheduled to resume after the holidays.

The seventh round of talks on restoring the Iranian nuclear deal and lifting US sanctions against the Islamic republic began on November 29. It resumed on December 9 after consultations of the participants in their countries. Negotiators have already confirmed that further work will go on the basis of the documents, which were formed by June 2021 during the six rounds. It was noted that all parties are striving to restore the JCPOA in its original form.

Two working groups - on the removal of sanctions and on nuclear issues - continued to work in Vienna this week. They are engaged in coordinating the positions of the negotiators. In the future it is planned to engage a third group in order to implement the future agreement.
