Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan believes he was wrongly informed about the use of Russian-made Iskander missiles in Nagorno-Karabakh, Mane Gevorgyan, spokesperson for the head of the Armenian Cabinet, told Armenpress on Monday.
"Prime Minister Pashinyan and Russian President [Vladimir] Putin also discussed Pashinyan's statement regarding Armenia's use of the Iskander system (in Nagorno-Karabakh - TASS) during a recent phone conversation, among other issues. After the comparison of facts and information, the Prime Minister came to the conclusion that he was wrongly informed about that situation," she said.
According to Gevorgyan, "Pashinyan's statement has nothing to do with the content and quality of the Armenian-Russian allied relations in the military and military-industrial cooperation. "There is also no doubt that Russian weapons are among the best in the world. Armenia continues its close cooperation with Russia in the fields of military industry and high technology," she added.
On Tuesday evening, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented in an interview with local portal 1in.am on former President Serzh Sargsyan's statement that the Armenian side should have used Iskander missiles during the first days of military operations in Karabakh. Pashinyan suggested that Sargsyan answer why "the Iskander missiles fired did not explode or exploded only by 10%". Later, military experts interviewed by TASS reported that the Iskander missiles were not used at all during the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian Defense Ministry also denied information about the use of the systems during military operations in the region.
Armenia first announced the purchase of Russian Iskander tactical complexes in September 2016.
