Patrushev and Ghalibaf confirmed readiness to expand cooperation between Russia and Iran

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and Chairman of Iran's Islamic Council Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf at a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday discussed the development of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including security. This was reported by the press service of the administration of the Russian Security Council.


"Nikolai Patrushev and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf discussed further development of Russian-Iranian relations in various spheres, including the security sphere," the report said.


It is noted that "the interlocutors confirmed the readiness for expansion of cooperation between Moscow and Tehran both in bilateral and multilateral formats". Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the field of information security, joint efforts to combat pandemics, regional security issues, as well as the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.


"At the end of the meeting, Nikolai Patrushev congratulated M.B. Ghalibaf on the Islamic Revolution Day celebrated in Iran on February 11 and also conveyed his greetings to Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, stressing the existing close constructive dialogue between the two countries' security councils," the Russian Security Council added.


Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Moscow on Sunday and plans to conclude his visit on February 9. He is leading a parliamentary delegation that arrived at the official invitation of State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. According to the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali, Ghalibaf's visit could have a significant impact on the development of Moscow-Tehran relations.
