International meetings of secretaries of the Security Council on the theme of Afghanistan must continue, and other regional issues must be included in their agenda. Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev expressed this opinion at a meeting on Wednesday within the framework of the Delhi regional dialogue on security issues in Afghanistan.
"Multilateral meetings of secretaries of security councils on the issues of Afghanistan are an important format that allows us to discuss at the highest level the whole range of problems related to the development of the situation in Afghanistan as well as work out practical measures of counteracting challenges and threats emanating from the Afghan territory. We think that the practice of such meetings will be continued in the future as well by adding other urgent regional issues to the agenda," Patrushev said.
He expressed confidence that today's meeting in New Delhi would give additional impetus to the development of cooperation in the Afghan direction and "will contribute to the soonest establishment of long-term peace in this country.
The Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan brings together India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, who are represented at the New Delhi meeting by National Security Advisors or Secretaries of Security Councils. The event is chaired by Ajit Doval, national security adviser to the Indian prime minister. Previous similar meetings were organized by Iran in 2018 and 2019.
