Patrushev Plans Visit to Oman

25 September 2023

The press service of the Security Council staff has announced that Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev will embark on a working visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Monday.

"Security consultations between Russia and Oman are scheduled to take place in Muscat, involving representatives from ministries and agencies of both nations," the statement indicated.

The most recent meeting between Patrushev and his Omani counterpart, Secretary General of the National Security Council of Oman Idris Al Kindi, took place in May during the International Meeting of High Representatives on security issues held near Moscow.

In March 2023, marking the first high-level contacts between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1985, a telephone conversation took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman. This conversation was initiated by the Omani side. The Kremlin press service reported that during the call, the leaders conducted a comprehensive review of Russian-Omani cooperation's current state and future prospects. They also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East region.

In July, the foreign ministers of Russia and Oman held talks in Moscow, during which Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted the invitation extended to the Sultan of Oman to visit Russia.
