07 March

Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev has reported a significant decrease in the number of extremist crimes in the North Caucasus, with nearly 450 individuals having been convicted for such acts. This was announced during a meeting on national security issues in the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, held in Magas, the capital of Ingushetia.

"The outcome of the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies and executive authorities in the district resulted in a one-third reduction in the number of extremist crimes. Additionally, more than 50 individuals have been identified with information linking them to extremist activities, and 449 individuals have been convicted for extremist crimes," Patrushev stated.

He recalled a similar meeting held in Nalchik in April 2023, where measures to prevent extremist manifestations in the North Caucasus were discussed. "During the implementation of these measures, substantial work was undertaken to identify and suppress the activities of radical associations and groups within the district," Patrushev added.

He also emphasized that ensuring national security and socio-political stability in the North Caucasus remains a priority in the activities of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
