Some Western countries are trying to impose their values on Qatar, which is a manifestation of totalitarianism, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, said on Friday.
"A number of Western countries are trying to impose their values on Qatar. No respect for Qatar's national traditions and values as an Islamic state. Why are they doing this? Another example of totalitarian tendencies in Western politics," the diplomat wrote on his Twitter page.
Qatar is hosting the FIFA World Cup, which runs until December 18. The West has criticized the organizers of the tournament and the emirate's authorities for violating the rights of women, migrant workers and sexual minorities.
