Permanent Representative of Russia estimated the future of the European Union on the background of the pandemic

03 April 2020

The European Union will survive the situation with the coronavirus but it is still difficult to predict how it will come out of the crisis, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU Vladimir Chizhov told RIA Novosti.

"I don't want to go from one extreme to another. Of course, the EU, as well as the rest of the world, will still have difficulties caused by the current pandemic, and it is difficult to predict in detail how the EU will emerge from this crisis. But it will," the diplomat said, in particular.

The EU countries that were first affected by the crisis due to the coronavirus, according to Chizhov, will be the first to leave it.

"It would be clearly premature to talk about the parameters of the EU's exit from the current crisis. However, the statistics of recent days suggest that those European countries that were the first to go deep into it, obviously, will be the first to start coming out. I am referring primarily to Italy, " the Representative said.
