Russia will observe what the first and further steps of the Afghan government announced on Tuesday by the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) will be, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS when asked whether Moscow would recognize this government composition.
"It is important for us to understand what the first and further steps of this government will be and what will happen next in Afghanistan," the Kremlin spokesman said.
Earlier, the radical Taliban movement that seized power in Afghanistan announced the composition of the country's new cabinet. Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund was named prime minister, and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the leader of the political branch of radicals, and Abdul Salam Hanafi, the deputy head of the movement's political wing, were named his deputies. A Taliban spokesman noted that the current government is only temporary.
The Taliban began a large-scale operation to take control of Afghanistan after the US announced in the spring the decision to withdraw its military forces from the country. On August 15, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigned and left the country, and Taliban fighters entered Kabul without a fight.
For nearly two weeks, the Taliban were unable to approve the composition of the cabinet, largely because of what they claimed were "technical difficulties and preparations."
