Russia is closely monitoring the situation in Tunisia and expects that the stability and security of Tunisian citizens will not be threatened, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.
"Of course, we are following this news from Tunisia. Of course, we are counting on the fact that nothing will threaten the stability and security of citizens in this country," he said.
On July 25, Tunisian President Kais Saied announced the suspension of Parliament for 30 days, the lifting of immunity for all deputies and the resignation of Prime Minister Hicham Al-Mashishi. Army units were brought into the capital of the republic and took positions in the city center, particularly near the parliament building and the headquarters of the national television company. The president's decisions were taken after demonstrations in several large Tunisian cities on Sunday demanding the dissolution of Parliament, a change of political regime as well as bringing to justice those responsible for the worsening epidemic and socio-economic situation in the country.
