Peskov: Russia would like to restore the Iran nuclear deal as soon as possible

Russia is in favor of restoring the nuclear deal with Iran as soon as possible, but it should be taken into account that unfriendly steps of the West towards Moscow may have an indirect influence on a number of its provisions, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

"We would, of course, like to see this deal renewed as soon as possible," the Kremlin spokesman said. "There are certain new realities related to the unfriendly steps of the countries of the collective West against the Russian Federation, which are indirectly projected on some provisions of the possible deal," Peskov said. He stressed that "this, too, has yet to be worked out."

At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman pointed out that work on the resumption of the deal is ongoing. "There are several issues on the agenda," he said.

Earlier on Monday, President Joe Biden's statement released on the occasion of the opening of a conference of member states to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons  at the United Nations in New York stated that the United States, together with its allies, had prepared a plan for a full resumption to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
