Participants of the Taliban radical movement (banned in the Russian Federation) in Afghanistan have given Russian diplomats security guaranties as long as all these commitments are fulfilled, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at the Eastern Economic Forum.
This is how the Kremlin responded to the question of what actions Moscow is planning to take in relation to Russians, including diplomats, present in Afghanistan if the situation there develops in an unfavorable scenario.
‘In this case there are certain security guaranties from the Taliban for our diplomats. So far these guaranties are all being respected, fulfilled’, Peskov stressed.
The Taliban radical movement launched a massive operation to take control of Afghanistan after the US announced its intention to withdraw from the country in spring. On August 15, President Ashraf Ghani resigned from the Islamic republic and the Taliban entered Kabul without a fight. US troops left Afghanistan completely on Tuesday night, ending their 20-year stay in the country.
