Peskov: so far, Russia prefers to monitor the Taliban's actions in Afghanistan

24 September 2021

Russia, like most countries around the world, prefers to keep a close eye on the steps of the Taliban (banned in Russia) in Afghanistan and how they fulfill their promises, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday, responding to a question about whether Russia plans to invite representatives of the new Afghan authorities to Moscow.

"Like the vast majority of countries, we prefer to observe most closely what the Taliban is doing in Afghanistan, what final structure the power system in that country will take, how the promises previously made will be enforced. We are watching all this very closely," Peskov said.
