Russia, in fulfilling its obligations under the Collective Security Treaty, may stand up for Armenia, but those obligations do not apply to Nagorno-Karabakh, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

"Security obligations: if a CSTO member country is subjected to some kind of aggression, an attack from outside, then the countries participating in the treaty have obligations to stand up for such a state," the Kremlin representative said.

Answering the question, in which case Russia is ready to send troops to the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh, Peskov stressed that "it follows from obligations" within the framework of the CSTO. "In this case, we are talking about Armenia, the President [of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin] clearly explained and delineated these two issues, the obligations under the CSTO are not applied to Karabakh," the spokesperson explained. According to him, the information that some hostilities are taking place in Armenia is not confirmed.

Earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Armenian leadership had not expressed any questions about the quality of Russia's fulfillment of its obligations under the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The head of state reminded that Russia has obligations to Armenia, which is a CSTO member, and stated that hostilities are not taking place in Armenia.
